Giants Ridge

Admittedly, I am a sucker whenever the description of a golf course starts with “built in an old quarry”. Some of my favorite courses fit that mold and I think the elevation changes and other design elements that accompany a quarry course are terrific. So needless to say that I was always very intrigued by The Quarry at Giants Ridge in northern Minnesota. Not only because of the name, but also because of it’s extremely high ranking on the Golf Digest Top 100 U.S. Public Courses list.

I have made a number of visits to Giants Ridge and I can tell you that it’s ranking as the top public course in the state is no mistake. I am like a kid in a candy store while playing the courses at Giants Ridge. That’s right courses, as in more than one. Even though The Quarry Course is singled out by Golf Digest and other publications, I am here to tell you that the Legend Course could easily have found its way onto The Top 100 list. A full day of 36 holes at Giants Ridge offers challenge, beauty, twists, turns….everything. It is a day that should not be missed by any golf lover.

During my last trip to Giants Ridge I was introduced to something called a Finn Cycle which I got to use on the Legend Course. I honestly think I may have found the way my personal golf was meant to be played…. on an electrically charged, speedy little scooter that makes getting around the course even more fun!! The Legend Course was perfect for my maiden voyage on the bike as there are some LONG rides between holes on that course. I could not wipe the small off of my face. Giants Ridge is absolutely worth the drive!!!!
