My name is Jason Kauflin. I was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. I hacked it around on the golf course during my early years, but never took the game seriously until I got into the workforce. My wife and I moved to Wisconsin about 20 years ago. When our daughter, Rachel, was born in 2002, I left a successful sales career to become a stay-at-home dad. Staying home with the kids was great (Kevin was born in 2005), but it left a big gap in my brain where all that work stuff used to be. My mind began to focus more and more on golf, not only trying to improve but discovering new places to play.
In 2001, I talked three buddies into flying out to Mesquite, Nevada for a three day golf trip. We had so much fun that we invited a few more guys the next year. What is now known as the Kauflin Invitational was off and running! The trip has grown into a large scale operation with 40 to 50 participants each year. What started with a love for golf, and an equal interest in hanging out with my buddies, turned into a passion for planning the perfect golf trip. I’m sure many people rue all of the details and headaches that go into a trip like this, but I grew to absolutely love every inch of it.
Over the years I had numerous people suggest that I should consider taking my skills as a group leader and offer them to others. In 2015 I decided to turn my passion into a business by launching Wisconsin Golf Trips in my home state. Becoming the state’s first inbound tour operator was something I thought could take off with Erin Hills hosting the state’s first ever U.S. Open in 2017 and the Ryder Cup coming to Whistling Straits in 2020. The company has really taken off and I am now quoting and booking groups from all over the world to take advantage of the world-class courses that Wisconsin has to offer. I am also part of a state-wide committee promoting “America’s #1 Golf Destination” to international groups.
One thing led to another with Minnesota. I already had some golf connections in that part of the Midwest, and then word spread of my success in Wisconsin. I was invited over to the Minnesota Golf Show and had a number of people tell me there was a need for a tour operator in Minnesota as well. It was around this time that I got to know some contacts at the Bloomington (MN) Convention and Visitor Bureau who wanted me to help build their Great Northern Golf Trail. Basically they are promoting the entire region to international groups, so I was more than happy to get involved.
I have worked hard to make all the course contacts necessary, research all sorts of lodging options, and find reliable transportation vendors in the Minnesota market. All you have to do is tell me what kind of trip you are looking for, and I will make it happen. Whether you are a group from out of state looking to play golf in a new area, or a Minnesota group looking to explore a different part of the state, Minnesota Golf Trips can help you put all the pieces in place. I look forward to hearing from you. Jason
